Royal Canin Canine Neutered Adult Small Dog is a nutritionally complete food designed to maintain ideal weight in neutered dogs under ten kilograms.
How it works
Neutered dogs are at a higher risk of becoming obese. This food has been developed to help them maintain an ideal weight, as well as promote other health benefits. The low calorie recipe is designed to reduce weight gain, even if your dog doesn't take much exercise. It is formulated to keep your pet feeling fuller for longer so they don't go scouting for snacks. The formula also includes added ingredients to assist oral and digestive health. The nutrients keep calcium in saliva for longer, discouraging tartar build-up, while prebiotics help to maintain a healthy digestive system.
- low calorie: good for weight maintenance and dieting
- nutrients discourage tartar deposits on teeth
- prebiotics maintain a healthy level of gut flora and aid digestive transit
- antioxidants support general health
- complete feed with all the nutrients your pet needs.
When to use it
Neutered dogs need fewer calories than their non-neutered counterparts, and also have a tendency to become less active. This is why dogs are at higher risk of gaining weight during the first two years after being neutered. Weight gain can lead to obesity which has serious health implications, including joint stress and a reduced lifespan.
There are some quick tests you can do to check if your dog is overweight. The first is to gently stroke their sides: you should be able to feel their ribs under a layer of fat. If you can't feel them, they could be overweight. Look at your dog from above: do they have an hourglass figure? If not, they may be carrying excess body weight.
Most weight gain in dogs is caused by eating too much and exercising too little, however it can sometimes be a symptom of a serious problem such as hyperthyroidism, pancreatic cancer or Cushing's disease. If your dog is gaining weight, it's important to visit your vet to rule out underlying health issues before putting them on a calorie controlled diet.
Because veterinary diets are formulated for the nutritional support of pets with specific clinical conditions, we recommend that you only use them under professional advice.
