Top tips for keeping your pet’s skin and coat in tip-top condition
Feed your pet a high-quality diet
You’ve probably noticed that when you eat well, you can see the effect it has on your hair, skin and nails. The same is true for your pet! Feed your furry friend the best quality diet your budget can stretch to and their skin and coat will reap the nutritional benefits.
Bathe and brush
When it comes to canines, make sure you’re choosing the correct shampoo for your breed. Depending on the thickness and texture of their coat, they may need more or less frequent baths and brushes to keep their skin and fur as healthy as possible.
Most felines are meticulously clean (and probably wouldn’t appreciate a shampoo!), however many adore a good brush – particularly long-haired breeds who need regular brushing to keep their coat healthy and tangle-free.
Add supplements
Look for supplements which contain essential fatty acids and vitamin B, which will give your dog’s coat strength and shine. Vitamin supplements and oils should be used in addition to a complete pet food.
Watch out for allergies
Food allergies caused by dairy, grain and particular types of meat are common in pets, so look out for signs such as itchy skin and upset stomachs after eating. If you think your pet might be suffering from an allergy, consider trying a hypoallergenic pet food to see if this relieves the symptoms.
