Product details

The Scalibor Collar offers up to six months' protection against ticks, mosquitos and sand flies.

How it works

The Scalibor Collar uses a patented technology to slowly release chemicals that deter blood-sucking insects including mosquitos, sand flies, ticks and fleas through an anti-feeding effect which stops them from biting your pet. The active ingredient is deltamethrin, one of the safest types of insecticide. As it is generally effective after one week, the collar should be worn a week before likely exposure to infestation.

Its odourless design makes it easy for your dog to adapt to wearing it and it is also safe for use on pregnant or lactating dogs.

Note that, although the collar works while wet, you should keep your dog out of the water while wearing, as the active ingredient is toxic to fish and other aquatic life. Your dog shouldn't swim for the first five days of wearing the collar.

Key benefits

  • Deters ticks and sand flies for five to six months
  • Has an anti-feeding effect on mosquitos for up to six months
  • Patented technology releases insecticide/acaricide slowly
  • Odourless
  • Active ingredient, deltamethrin, safe for dogs
  • Safe for pets who are pregnant or lactating
  • Can be used on puppies aged seven weeks or older
  • Effective after one week.

When to use it

Some pests, like ticks, are at their worst during the summer months. Others, like mosquitos and sand flies, can pose a threat in hotter climes: a worry if you like to bring your pet abroad with you.

Insect bites can be painful and itchy, but they can also result in serious blood-borne illnesses. Protects against phlebotomines sand flies which can transmit leishmaniosis. All of these have serious health consequences, so it's important to be vigilant.

Important information:

As the Scalibor collar exerts its full effect after one week, the collar should be preferably applied 1 week before animals are likely to become exposed to infestation. In rare cases attachment of ticks can occur while wearing the tick collar. Under unfavourable conditions the transmission of infectious diseases through ticks or sandflies can therefore not be ruled out entirely.

While occasional contact with water does not reduce the effectiveness of the Scalibor collar, it should always be removed before swimming and bathing the dog because the active substance is harmful to fish and other aquatic organisms. Dogs must be prevented from swimming in water for the first five days of wearing the collar.

Do not use on puppies less than 7 weeks of age

Do not use on cats

  • Scalibor collars
We often take our dogs to southern Europe where sandfly fever is rife. These collars seem to do the job and we feel confident that our dogs are safe. The added bonus is they are also effective against ticks

  • good for Europe/Spain

  • Very Effective
Have used these on our dogs while in Spain and are effective against the ticks, don't always stop them getting on the dogs but certainly kill them if I have not combed them off after walks. Don't know about sand flies as we don't get them where we are in Spain.

  • Good for travel in Europe
Have used Scalibor collar several times for travel in Europe it has appeared to be very effective so far but we are not usually in the areas where sandflies are endemic in their peak season and follow the advice to keep your dog inside upon sundown.
