Product details

Hill's Prescription Diet Canine k/d is a nutritionally complete feed formulated by vets for dogs suffering from kidney disease.

How it works

Hill's Prescription Diet Canine k/d has been clinically proven to support your dog's kidney function and slow the progress of disease, giving your pet a better quality of life. The low sodium formulation is easy on the kidneys, while small doses of high-quality protein ensures your dog is getting all the nutrition he needs. The food also includes high levels of antioxidants, which can neutralise free radicals; molecules in your dog's system that can speed up the disease process and deterioration. As a nutritionally complete feed, this dog food is intended to replace regular dog food for the duration of your pet's life.

Key benefits

  • improves quality of life by slowing the progress of kidney disease
  • clinically proven to reduce signs and symptoms of renal problems
  • protects kidney and heart function
  • supports appetite
  • includes small doses of high-quality protein
  • low sodium
  • high level of antioxidants
  • nutritionally complete: takes the place of regular dog food.

When to use it

Signs of kidney disease include increased thirst, needing to urinate more often, weight loss, bad (worse than usual) breath, vomiting, diarrhoea, mouth pain, lethargy, depression and a dull coat. If your dog is showing any of these symptoms it's important to visit your vet right away. Some of the symptoms can be caused by other health issues, so a proper diagnosis is crucial. It's especially important if your dog is aged seven years or older: this is the age when kidney problems become more common.

Good nutrition can help to slow the progress of the disease. Protein, phosphorus and salt need to be limited: this means no more human food. High phosphorus foods include doggy favourites like hard cheese, ham, and peanut butter.

Because veterinary diets are formulated for the nutritional support of pets with specific clinical conditions, we recommend that you only use them under professional advice. For more information on feeding Hill's Prescription Diet Canine k/d to your dog, please consult your veterinary surgeon.

  • Hills Science diet renal
Purchased for my elderly greyhound who has kidney disease. She eats it happily and her kidney disease is stable. Good value.

  • No complaints
We were recommended a low protein diet for our dog who has Cushngs. He thoroughly enjoys this food, and shows no signs of finding this special diet any less palatable than regular food
    Carol 1957 - March 1, 2020
  • Well accepted
I was expecting this prescription diet to be bland and poorly received by our dog, based on the warnings from our vet and previous experience of a different brand. However, this is quite savoury smelling, and we have had no problems getting Basil to eat it. Our other dog liked it enough to pinch some, and he is fairly picky too.

  • Superb food for kidney problems
My elderly dog has kidney problems and this food keeps him really well, he has gone from severe thirst to normal drinking since being on this food.

  • Dogs with chronic kidney disease
My dog was recently diagnosed with ckd. This special diet food has really helped. He also likes the taste.
