Product details

The Drinkwell Pet Fountain offers a free flowing water stream that satisfies your pet’s natural instinct to drink running water.

How it works

Designed and patented by a licensed vet, the fountain filters and aerates the continuously moving water, keeping the water fresh at all times. The flow rate of the fountain can be adjusted to suit the needs of your furry friend and it is powered by mains electricity.

Charcoal filters are fitted inside the fountain to remove any bad tastes or odours, providing the best tasting water for your pet. These filter will need to be replaced every 6-8 weeks. When the fountain needs to be cleaned, it can be completely dismantled, making cleaning an easy task.

Key benefits

  • continuous 5” stream of fresh water
  • flow rate can be adjusted to suit your pet’s preferences
  • 4 litre bowl capacity
  • charcoal filters keep the water from odours and unwanted tastes
  • completely dismantles for cleaning
  • suitable for dogs and cats

When to use it

Keeping your pet hydrated is a key part of maintaining their health. Using a fountain is a good way to entice your companion into drinking water throughout the day as it continuously aerates, therefore tasting fresher and seeming more appealing.

Cats in particular are susceptible to urinary tract diseases as they don’t tend to keep themselves well hydrated. The fresh water produced by the fountain can help to encourage your cat to drink more and reduce the risk.

A detailed instruction manual accompanies each fountain providing operating instructions, cleaning and maintenance instructions, tips for use, safety instructions and warranty details.

Additional Information

1) How do I get rid of the charcoal dust in the bowl?

Rinse the filter in cold water. Even after rinsing, you will still have remnants of charcoal dust settling in the bottom of the bowl. This dust will eventually dissipate after a few cycles. The charcoal is completely harmless. Even as the dust settles in the bowl, it continues to work by absorbing bad tastes and odors and purifying the water. If you are uncomfortable with the amount of charcoal from the filer, you can remove it. The fountain will function without it.

2) How often should I clean the fountain?

Clean the fountain and the inside cavity of the motor with soapy water about every two weeks. In between (weekly), take apart and rinse with hot water. If you have a reservoir container, lift it out of the back of the fountain and quickly turn upright.

  • Unscrew the reservoir lid and remove the black rubber O ring.
  • Unplug the fountain, remove the cover and pull out the filter.
  • Empty water out of the fountain.
  • Remove the upper housing of the fountain by pressing in the tabs at the sides and lifting up.
  • The flow control knob and stator are not attached and are freed when the housing is removed.
  • Remove the motor from the fountain (refer to "How do I clean the motor?").
  • Wash the rest of the fountain parts with a mild detergent and rinse well.

3) Is the fountain dishwasher safe?

Yes but the motor is not. Remove the motor before putting the pieces of the fountain into the dishwasher.

4) How do I clean the motor?

For detailed cleaning instructions with diagrams, download the instruction manual.

5) What should I do if the motor is not pumping the water properly or it stopped working altogether?

Lack of regular cleaning may result in the motor becoming clogged with pet hair and food debris. The motor must be cleaned every two weeks to ensure proper function. Please refer to the motor cleaning instructions.

6) What should I do if my fountain suddenly becomes noisy?

It is normal for the motor to be slightly audible, like a low hum, but it shouldn't be very noticeable or loud. Most noise is related to the impeller. Remove the motor from the fountain and make sure there is no hair or debris wrapped around the impeller and that all four blades are intact. Please refer to the motor cleaning instructions.

7)What should I do if there is a white film in my fountain?

If you have "hard water" you may start to see white mineral deposits on or down inside the motor. This may eventually prevent the impeller from turning properly. Loss of function as a result of mineralization from hard water does not qualify under the warranty.

8) Why is my fountain making gurgling sounds?

The gurgling sounds indicate that the water level is very low. Add water to the fountain immediately. During regular use, do not allow the water level to fall below the inlet grate on the bottom of the flow control knob, or the motor may run dry and burn out.

9) Why is my fountain overflowing when I attach the reservoir?

First, make sure there is a black rubber O-ring in the base of the reservoir lid. It should be located in the groove in the lid and not on the canister itself. Try loosening the reservoir lid. The lid needs to fit snuggly, but not too tight. Over-tightening will cause the O-ring to compress. Make sure the fountain and the reservoir are on the same level surface. If you are using a mat, make sure the mat is under the fountain and reservoir.

10) Does the Drinkwell Pet Fountain need batteries?

Not at all, it is 220v and runs on the mains. The unit comes with a 3-pin plug attached and plugs into a standard household outlet.

  • Water fountain
It took a little while for my cats to realise what this thing was and did but it's great now they have figured it out no more running taps.

  • Cheap noisy not sure working properly
This arrived this evening. Prompt delivery as usual. I can't honestly believe this is £30 in the sale. It is cheap nasty plastic and not sturdy! I am not sure it works as it should and reserve judgement to see if I can discern any difference between low flow and high flow. Both are loud and produce lots of / near enough the same amount of water which means neither cat will go near it. So far disappointed. Will follow up.

  • Not bad
Bought this in march 2014, it died July 2016. It worked as expected. We got this free flowing water fountain as we thought the cats would enjoy it as much as drinking out of the tap. They still preferred the tap! Bit noisy but we got used to it, it was mainly pointed out by guests. Main problem was the motor/electrics could not be detached so full cleaning was difficult, having to keep water away from the underside and plug/cable whilst scrubbing the little nooks & crannies.

  • Excellent
Have had mine for 2years, my cats love it and it still works perfectly. But you need to give it a proper clean every few months, to keep it working well. Watch YouTube video on cleaning etc
