Advance Veterinary Diets Leishmaniasis Dog Food helps to manage the symptoms of the disease, supporting kidney health and boosting blood cell immunity to fight off infections

How it works

This dry food helps dogs with Leishmaniasis to live fuller lives. It's designed to boost cell immunity without causing renal failure.

It contains optimum levels of protein and energy, improving muscle condition while supporting the immune system, too. Essential fatty acids help the skin and hair to recover, particularly omega-3 and -6 which reduce skin inflammation. Low levels of purine in this mix prevent xanthine stones from forming in the urinary tract (a possible side effect of allopurinol treatment).

The tasty mix is fibre rich and easy to digest for dogs with gastrointestinal disorders.

Key benefits

  • Formulated for dogs with Leishmaniasis
  • Boosts blood cell immunity to help avoid illness and infections
  • High-protein mix supports normal kidney function
  • Omega oils ease inflamed skin and encourage new hairs to grow
  • Extra vitamin C supports healthy eyesight and raises natural defences
  • Low phosphorus level helps to prevent glomerular dysfunction

When to use it

If your dog has the disease, Advance Veterinary Diets Leishmaniasis Dog Food helps to relieve the uncomfortable symptoms alongside medicine prescribed by your vet. Good quality food and a low-stress environment can go a long way towards successfully managing the condition.

If your pet seems to be suffering from a skin flare up or digestive problems, keep an eye on them and take them to the vet if the issue is prolonged or seems to worsen.

When switching to this food from your pet's old food, be sure to introduce it gradually to avoid a stomach upset and always make fresh drinking water available.

  • Great food
Sadly my 2 year old Cyprus rescue dog has recently been dygnosed with Leish Obviously we’re testing him but I honestly think this food is helping too His coat and feet aren’t as dry and most importantly his poop is ‘normal’ He seems to go less too than when he was in a wet compressed food thinking initially he’d developed an allergy to his other dry food. I will Certainly continue to feed him this food.

  • My dog loves this!
Phoebe is a Greek rescue with leish. I was searching the net for low purine food, when I found the Medicanimal website, with the diet food I needed for her. The free delivery was speedy, and the loyalty credit makes such a difference to the price, and well worth ordering again. Phoebe absolutely loves this food, she was actually drooling when I opened it on arrival. To stop her getting bored I mix it with a raw egg, or a little zero fat Greek yoghurt; which helps the tablets for leish go down nicely, or white fish. I also love the zip close bag, which keeps the food fresh. An all round winner for us.

  • Calypso is thriving on this
Calypso has Leish and I put him on this food after his course of Milteforan this summer in order to give him the best possible chance of doing well. The Milteforan brought his bloods back to normal and I am sure that the Advanced diet is helping maintain his health. It seems to be very palatable and keeps moist in the zip-up bag. I mix it for variety with a bit of coconut oil or raw egg or even a big of Chappie the lowest protein meat, I think and 6 months on Calypso's coat is growing back well and his energy levels are back up. The food is expensive but MedicAnimal have regular promotions so it's usually possible to get a discount. Plus the loyalty reward scheme is helpful too. I suspect I feed a few grams more than the recommended amount of kibble, but Calypso had lost weight and needed to build back up to his 44kg. Personally, I am very grateful to have a ready-made Leish food that can do all the purine-counting for me and which Calypso seems to be thriving on.
