Dog food treat 'causing kidney failure' (21/02/2012)

Kidney disease in dogs could be caused by a canine treat.

A dog food treat could be causing a range of canine illnesses and even death, according to animal activists in Ohio.

10TV reports that the Waggin' Train brand Chicken Jerky Tenders are causing serious complications in pets.

Some dog owners have reported kidney failure, vomiting and even deaths of their pets after feeding them the treat.

The cause of the Chinese-made snack's problems is currently unknown, however issues have been highlighted with it since 2007.

This week, senator Sherrod Brown called on the US Food and Drug Administration to take action after animal activists and owners reported numerous medical complications arising from their dogs munching on the treat.

The treats are believed to still be available from stores in the US.
