Dog trainer advises against canines eating human foods (06/02/2012)
Puppies should only be fed dog food, says expertDog food is the only thing that new puppies should be eating, according to a canine expert.
Tamara Dormer, CPDT-KA (The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers - Knowledge Assessed), AKC-CGC (American Kennel Club Good Canine Citizen) and dog trainer at Best Friends Animal Society, recommends that when introducing a new puppy it is not advisable to feed them human foods.
"They can become quite ill on even a small amount of the wrong type of human food," Ms Dormer said, before stating the inquisitive canines will try to eat whatever food they can reach.
"An enterprising puppy can get into the food even without a human accomplice, or the extra trash that is generated with crowds and parties," she commented.
Dog behaviour can also be improved by introducing a routine as early as possible and introducing puppies to other pets and family members gradually.
