Dietetic food for the nutritional treatment of excessive body weight by means of a low energy diet

Medical Indications:
-Obesity
-Diabetes mellitus in overweight cats
-Hyperlipidemia in overweight cats
-Fibre responsive colitis
-Constipation
-Hairballs

Medical Contraindications:
-Conditions associated with catabolic states

Clinical Considerations & Diet Characteristics:
- High protein/calorie ratio - helps maintain lean body mass, or muscle, increases the % of fat loss and promotes satiety
- High fibre - promotes satiety while reduce calories consumed, and helps manage fibre-responsive colitis
- Low fat - reduces calories to promote effective weight loss
- Promotes acidic urine (target 6.2-6.4)

Dosage
Administration:
-The suggested daily food intake for weight loss is based on the cat’s current weight , average caloric requirements and a desired weight loss of 1 % of body weight per week.
-Daily food intake must be adjusted every 4 weeks. It must be fed until target body weight is achieved.
