information
Medical Contraindications: -Conditions
that require high protein or phosphorus intake -Reproduction, growth
Clinical Considerations & Diet
Characteristics: -Low phosphorus - helps to protect against
hyperphosphatemia and the associated renal damage -Restricted but high
quality protein - minimize the formation of uremic toxins and the intake of
non-essential amino acids -Low sodium - helps compensate for the diseased
kidneys inability to regulate this mineral (then minimizes the risk of
hypertension) -Added potassium citrate - helps reduce the risk of
hypokalemia, and helps to maintain alkaline urine, appropriate for managing
calcium oxalate urolithiasis -Non acidifying diets - promote a urine pH of
6,7 to 7,5 ad lib, then reduce the risk of acidosis, and help manage calcium
oxalate urolithiasis -Source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids - help
reduce glomerular hypertension and minimize inflammation -Added B-complex
vitamins Target urinary pH (ad libitum) 7,1 +/ 0,4 Dosage Administration: -Before
changing diets, it is important to stabilize and treat any complications,
including dehydration. -As with any diet change, it is better to switch
gradually over the course of five to ten days. -Warming canned food can help
enhance palatability for anorectic dogs. -You should provide the cat with
small quantities of food several times a day in a quiet environment. Water
should be available at all times. -The recommended period of use is
initially up to 6 months Feeding Guide: Purina
